Ride Your Bike to School

In just the last generation, childhood obesity has tripled. This can be attributed to two main causes 1) lack of playtime or physical education and 2) a significant increase of the number of children being driven to school, instead of bicycling or walking.

The Ride Your Bike to School program provides an opportunity for school kids to get the physical activity that has been absent from school programs for many years. This program is free to any grade school student.

Participants in this program will be able to track their mileage--school days only--over the course of a school year. A school, state and national champion will be determined by the student who accumulates the most miles. Students will be on the honor system for the correct round trip distance from their home to school. In order to participate, a student will have to sign a pledge that they will 1) wear a helmet 2) obey all traffic laws and 3) not use drugs.

A portion of the proceeds from the sale of all items in TheGuyOnTheBike store will go into a fund for buying bikes for kids who need a bike.

The Pledge

1.)

Every time I ride my bike, I will wear a helmet.

2.)

I will obey all traffic laws.

3.)

I will ride in a safe and courteous manner.

4.)

I will not use drugs.
